    CARE France is recruiting a Communications Officer for its programme "Where the Rain Falls"

    1. Overview of the programme "Where the Rain Falls" (WTRF)

     

    CARE, in partnership with the United Nations University, is implementing a three-year programme exploring the inter-linkages between shifting rainfall patterns/agro-climatic risks, food insecurity, and human mobility. The programme is funded by AXA Group (France) and The Mac Arthur Foundation (US) and encompasses research in 8 countries and community-based adaption projects in four of these countries.

    The project is coordinated by CARE France and the post would report to the Project Coordinator and work alongside the Project assistant.

    A "WTRF communication taskforce" will also be giving guidance/supervising the Communications Officer in the development of the communications strategy and implementation of the communications plan.

    2. Job responsibilities of the Communications Officer

     

    The Communications Officer will help finalize the communications plan related to WTRF and coordinate its implementation.

    Target audiences include: Policy makers, CARE International internal audiences and external stakeholders (including AXA and MacArthur Foundation as donors), CARE staff involved in the project, academics, and the general public through targeted channels.

    Main responsibilities

    - With the support of the project communications task force, finalize the communications strategy

    - With the support of the project communications task force, ensure timely implementation of the plan on communications deliverables:

    o

     

     

    Coordinate the production of the Research reports

      

    o

     

     

    Draft, edit, and deliver online communications: Develop dedicated website, blog, social media campaign, etc

      

    o

     

     

    Produce/manage production of content as required (video, photos, human interest stories, etc.)

      

    o

     

     

    Manage suppliers including graphic designers, photographers, translators, videographers, etc.

      

    o

     

     

    Organize special events at main Conferences (e.g RIO 20 and COP18)

      

    o

     

     

    Coordinate media relations for research launch

      

    o

     

     

    Facilitate consultation of key stakeholders and dissemination of communications tools to all stakeholders

      

    o

     

     

    Write and edit communications, editorial copy and public relations materials, including Web copy, brochures, position papers, speeches, articles and media releases

      

    3. Education, experience

     

    Native English speaker desirable/ fluency in French a plus.

    Degree in communication or related discipline

    At least 2/3 years of professional work experience in communications

    Experience in managing global communication programs

    Familiar with design/video production process and software

    Experience/interest in development work and climate change

    4. Personal competencies

     

    Highly organized, reliable, attentive to detail, a self-starter

    Excellent writing and editing skills, with proven ability to explain complex issues clearly and accurately for different audiences

    Creativity skills required on all media (on and off line)

    Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects with input from a range of stakeholders and meet deadlines

    Initiative and ability to work independently as well as a part of a team

    Proven ability to work well under pressure

    5. Terms and conditions

    The initial contract will be for 1 year.

    Ideally to begin December, 2011

    Based in Paris at CARE France office 71 rue Archereau 75019 PARIS

    Salary: 23 k€ / year
